歷史背景Historical background
瑪利諾修院學校由瑪利諾修女會於一九二五年在柯士甸道創辦，最初為幼稚園，該會早於一九二一年來港服務社群。一九三一年聖德肋撒堂區成立後，校方選定發展中的九龍塘，一九三三年在窩打老道動工建新校舍，港督郝德傑一九三六年五月為正座主樓奠基，翌年遷入。正座主樓採新都鐸式風格，揉合裝飾藝術、羅馬式及哥德復興元素，禮堂的羅馬式拱頂、面向界限街的花崗石樓梯及單塔立面皆為特色。日治時期（一九四二至一九四五年）曾被日軍徵作軍醫院；毗鄰修院一九五三年建成，小學部一直留駐主樓。二〇〇八年列為法定古蹟。
Maryknoll Convent School was founded on Austin Road in 1925 as a kindergarten by the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic, who had come to Hong Kong in 1921. After St. Teresa's Parish was set up in 1931, the sisters chose the growing district of Kowloon Tong, and work on the new Waterloo Road campus began in 1933; Governor Sir Andrew Caldecott laid the Main Building's cornerstone in May 1936 and the school moved in the next year. Designed in a free neo-Tudor style mixing Art Deco, Romanesque and Gothic Revival features, the Main Building has a vaulted Romanesque auditorium, a granite staircase facing Boundary Street and a single tower on the facade. It served as a Japanese military hospital from 1942 to 1945. Declared a monument in 2008.
