歷史背景Historical background
王屋村古屋位於沙田圓洲角西南角。王屋村由來自廣東興寧縣的王氏於清乾隆年間（一七三六至一七九五年）建立，十九世紀時成為往來廣東與九龍商旅的重要中途站，市況興旺。其後村落大部分舊屋荒廢、拆卸，圓洲角一帶亦因沙田新市鎮發展而填海。村中碩果僅存這座古屋，約建於一九一一年，由王氏第十九世後人王清和所建，為兩層青磚建築，飾有壁畫及傳統裝飾。一九八九年列為法定古蹟。
The Old House at Wong Uk Village stands in the south-west corner of Yuen Chau Kok, Sha Tin. Wong Uk Village was founded during the Qianlong reign (1736-1795) by the Wong clan from Xingning county, Guangdong, and by the 19th century had become a major stopping point for traders travelling between Guangdong and Kowloon. Most of its old buildings later fell into ruin or were cleared as Sha Tin New Town was built on reclaimed land. The surviving house was built around 1911 by Wong Tsing Wo, a nineteenth-generation descendant, and is a two-storey green-brick dwelling with fine murals and traditional decoration. It was declared a monument in 1989.
