歷史背景Historical background
上窰村位於西貢郊野公園內，是由原籍廣東省寶安縣的黃姓客家族人於十九世紀所建的村落。該村建於一處高出地面的平台上，入口處築有塔樓，村內有一排八所並列的房舍，屋前設有曬坪。村民因建窰燒造殼灰，作灰泥及肥田料之用而致富，及後因英泥及造磚業的競爭，窰燒工業遂告沒落。上窰村於一九八三年修葺後闢作民俗文物館，館內陳列各種耕種工具及農村傢具，重現昔日客家村落的生活，村中的殼灰窰亦已修妥開放參觀。上窰村於一九八一年列為法定古蹟。
Sheung Yiu Village lies within Sai Kung Country Park. It is a Hakka village built in the 19th century by the Wong clan, whose ancestors came from Bao'an County in Guangdong. Standing on a raised platform with a watchtower at the entrance, it comprises a row of eight adjoining houses with a drying terrace in front. The villagers prospered by firing lime in a kiln for use as mortar and fertiliser, until competition from modern cement and brick-making ended the trade. Restored in 1983, the village opened as the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum, displaying farming tools and rural furniture; the original lime kiln is also restored. Declared a monument in 1981.
