歷史背景Historical background
灣仔玉虛宮（又稱北帝廟）位於隆安街，由灣仔坊眾集資興建，供奉代表北方星宿、同時被視為水神的北帝。主體建築於清同治元年（一八六二年）動工，一八六三年落成，落成年份刻於前進脊檁，是本地傳統中式建築的罕見例子。正門麻石門額「玉虛宮」三字，出自當時駐九龍寨城的大鵬協副將張玉堂手筆。香亭內供奉的北帝銅像鑄於明代，袍角刻有「大明萬曆三十一年」（一六〇三年）。廟宇屬兩進三開間格局，中為香亭，前進正脊及墀頭飾有石灣陶塑。二〇一九年列為法定古蹟。
Yuk Hui Temple, also known as Pak Tai Temple, stands on Lung On Street, Wan Chai, and was built by local residents to worship Pak Tai, a sea deity. The main building was started in 1862 (the first year of the Tongzhi reign) and completed in 1863 — unusually, the completion year is carved on a ridge purlin in the entrance hall. The name 'Yuk Hui Temple' on the granite lintel was written by Zhang Yutang, then Commodore of the Dapeng Brigade at Kowloon Walled City. The incense pavilion holds a Ming bronze statue of Pak Tai inscribed with the thirty-first year of Wanli (1603). The two-hall, three-bay temple has Shiwan ceramic decoration on its entrance ridge and gable corners. Declared a monument in 2019.
