歷史背景Historical background
鴨脷洲洪聖古廟位於洪聖街，面向石排灣與香港仔，據說由當地居民於清乾隆三十八年（一七七三年）集資興建，供奉相傳庇佑漁民和海上商旅的洪聖。廟宇至今仍保留面向大海的風水格局；廟前立有一對繪上龍紋的風水木柱（龍柱），在香港十分罕見，村民相信可鎮住香港仔「虎地」的煞氣。廟宇屬清代兩進三開間建築，兩進之間設有蓋天井和香亭，正脊和內院牆飾有石灣陶塑。每年農曆二月十三日洪聖誕仍是島上大型節慶，一九三〇年起由華人廟宇委員會管理，二〇一四年列為法定古蹟。
Hung Shing Temple on Hung Shing Street, Ap Lei Chau, is said to have been built by local residents in 1773 (the thirty-eighth year of Qianlong) and is dedicated to Hung Shing, a deity believed to protect fishermen and maritime traders. The temple keeps its feng shui setting facing the sea, and a pair of dragon-patterned timber poles stands before it, believed to ward off evil. A Qing two-hall, three-bay building, it has a covered courtyard and pavilion between the halls, side chambers, and Shiwan ceramic figures on its ridge. The Hung Shing Festival on the 13th day of the second lunar month remains a major local event; the temple has been managed by the Chinese Temples Committee since 1930 and was declared a monument in 2014.
