歷史背景Historical background
黃竹坑石刻位於港島南區黃竹坑一條小溪之旁。石上可辨認出三組明顯的回旋紋，狀似動物的眼睛。香港的石刻大多分布於海濱，黃竹坑石刻卻深入內陸約一公里，與其他臨海石刻不同，惟石刻之下有小溪流經，仍算臨近水邊。由於欠缺紀載，其刻鑿年代與目的已難以確定。黃竹坑石刻於一九八四年列為法定古蹟。
The Rock Carvings at Wong Chuk Hang lie beside a small stream in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. Three distinct groups of meandering patterns, resembling animal eyes, can be made out on the rock. While most Hong Kong carvings are found along the coast, these lie about a kilometre inland, though a small stream runs below them so they remain near water. With no records left, their date and purpose cannot be determined. They were declared monuments in 1984.
