歷史背景Historical background
般咸道官立小學校舍原於一九四〇至一九四一年間建成，用以容納一九三九年創立的羅富國師範學院，是香港首間全日制師範學院。日治期間學院停辦，校舍被日本憲兵佔用，一九四六年三月復課；二〇〇〇年一月二十五日起，校舍成為般咸道官立小學所在。主樓自一九四一年落成後一直作教育用途。它是一座三層混凝土建築，平面呈 E 形，屬流線型現代風格，以曲線和橫線條為主，裝飾簡約，樓內並設有防空洞。木門、鋼框窗、水磨石地磚、木地板和螺旋梯等，皆為原有建築構件。二〇二一年列為法定古蹟。
The Bonham Road Government Primary School premises were built in 1940-1941 for the Northcote Training College, Hong Kong's first full-time teacher training college, founded in 1939. The college closed during the Japanese Occupation, when the building was used by the Japanese Military Police, and reopened in March 1946. Since 25 January 2000 the campus has housed the Bonham Road Government Primary School; the main building has served education since it was completed in 1941. The three-storey concrete main building has a basement and an E-shaped plan in Streamline Moderne style, with curves, horizontal lines and little ornament. Its air-raid shelters, timber doors, steel-framed windows, terrazzo tiles, timber floorboards and spiral staircase are notable historic fabric. Declared a monument in 2021.
