歷史背景Historical background
舊三軍司令官邸位於中環紅棉路，一八四四年動工、一八四六年落成，是香港現存最古老的西式建築。它原名 Headquarters House，曾為駐港英軍司令德己立少將的居所，約一九三二年改稱旗桿屋（Flagstaff House），其後一直用作英軍司令的辦公室兼官邸，直至一九七八年；日治時期（一九四一至一九四五年）一度被日本海軍將領佔用。大樓為兩層，採希臘復興式，並因應本地氣候設有深闊遊廊。一九八一年由前市政局接管，活化後於一九八四年以茶具文物館之名開放。一九八九年列為法定古蹟。
The Flagstaff House on Cotton Tree Drive in Central was begun in 1844 and completed in 1846, making it the oldest surviving Western building in Hong Kong. First called Headquarters House, it housed Major-General George Charles D'Aguilar and later served as the office and residence of the Commander of British Forces until 1978, except during the Japanese Occupation (1941-1945), when Japanese admirals occupied it; it was renamed Flagstaff House around 1932. The two-storey building is in Greek Revival style with deep verandahs suited to the local climate. Taken over by the former Urban Council in 1981, it reopened in 1984 as the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware and was declared a monument in 1989.
