歷史背景Historical background
舊大埔墟火車站建於一九一三年，是九廣鐵路（英段）沿線車站中，唯一以中式風格建造的一座。車站立面、屋頂和裝飾的外觀均仿照中國傳統建築，採用金字頂，內部則按火車站的功能設計。九廣鐵路英段於一九八三年電氣化後，政府在附近另建新車站，舊站因而停用。舊站其後全面修復，改作香港鐵路博物館，於一九八五年開放予公眾參觀。舊大埔墟火車站於一九八四年列為法定古蹟。
The Old Tai Po Market Railway Station was completed in 1913 and is the only station along the Kowloon-Canton Railway (British Section) built in Chinese style. Its facade, roof and decorations followed traditional Chinese architecture, with a gabled roof, while the interior was designed for railway operation. When the line was electrified in 1983, new stations were built nearby and the old station became redundant. It was fully restored and now houses the Hong Kong Railway Museum, opened to the public in 1985. The Old Tai Po Market Railway Station was declared a monument in 1984.
