歷史背景Historical background
三棟屋村位於荃灣，是陳氏客家人於一七八六年建立的圍村。陳氏十八世紀後半葉從廣東遷來，定居荃灣，族人購入沿岸土地耕作。村落最初由三排房屋組成，其後人口增加，在兩側及後方擴建；正廳位於中軸線並面向正門，廳內置祖先神壇，門框上方的花崗石門楣刻有「陳氏宗祠」四字。一九八一年列為法定古蹟，一九八七年修葺後成為三棟屋博物館，開放予公眾參觀。
Sam Tung Uk Village in Tsuen Wan is a Hakka walled village built by the Chan clan in 1786. The clan moved from Guangdong in the latter half of the 18th century and settled in Tsuen Wan, where members bought coastal land to farm. The village began as three rows of houses and was extended on both sides and at the rear as the family grew; the main hall, holding the ancestral altar, stands on the central axis facing the entrance. Four Chinese characters reading "Chan Family Ancestral Hall" are carved on the granite lintel above the doorway. Declared a monument in 1981, it was restored in 1987 and opened as the Sam Tung Uk Museum.
