歷史背景Historical background
九龍城侯王古廟位於聯合道與東頭村道交界，是九龍區唯一主奉侯王（楊侯大王）的廟宇。廟內古鐘鑄於清雍正八年（1730年），據此推斷廟宇約建於1730年或之前。1847至1899年九龍寨城駐防期間，廟宇深受寨城清兵和官員供奉，留有大量相關文物，如1847年由九龍司巡檢許文深捐出的香爐，以及1888年的「鶴」字石刻。廟宇建於石砌台基上，正殿前有方亭；後殿供奉侯王和觀音等神祇，其「五岳朝天」式梯級山牆在香港甚為罕見。廟宇1928年由華人廟宇委員會接管，2014年列為法定古蹟。
Hau Wong Temple in Kowloon City is the district's only temple dedicated chiefly to Hau Wong (Yeung Hau Tai Wong). Its bell was cast in 1730, suggesting the temple was built in or before that year. When the Kowloon Walled City garrison held the area between 1847 and 1899, Qing officials and soldiers patronised the temple, which preserves many relics, including an incense burner donated in 1847 by Xu Wenshen, the first assistant magistrate of Kowloon, and a stone inscription of 'crane' dated 1888. The temple stands on a masonry terrace, and its rear hall's stepped gables are in the rare 'five peaks pay tribute to heaven' style. Taken over by the Chinese Temples Committee in 1928, it was declared a monument in 2014.
